You can't get out
retold by
S. E. Schlosser
One dark, windy night, the town drunk was meandering his way home after the bar closed. Somehow he got turned around and ended up walking through the churchyard instead of taking the road home.
The wind picked up and he thought he could hear a voice calling his name. Suddenly, the ground opened up in front of him, and he fell down, down into an open grave! He could hear the voice clearer now, calling to him. He knew it was the devil, coming for him just like the preacher said, on account of him being the town drunk.
The hole was very deep and inside it was pitch black. His eyes adjusted to the darkness after a few moments, and he made out a form sitting in the darkness with him. It called his name, and he scrambled away in fear, trying to climb out of that terrible grave. Then the figure spoke. "You can't get out," it said.
The drunk gave a shout of pure terror and leapt straight up more than six feet. He caught the edge of the hole in his hands, scrambled out, and ran for home as fast as he could go.
Inside the open grave, his neighbor Charlie sighed in resignation. He'd fallen into the hole a few minutes before his friend and had thought that together they might help each other climb out. Now he was going to have to wait until morning and get the mortician to bring him a ladder.

Best Bets of the Day!!
3.45 ascot
There have been no winning favourites of the Golden Jubilee Stakes in the last 10 runnings. - racingPost
SACRED KINGDOM - 5th / ART CONNOISSEUR - 1st @ 20-1 / KINGSGATE NATIVE
3 x 1pt Swingers
Supplemented for £45,000, Sacred Kingdom became warm at the start and fly-leaped as the stalls opened. After getting the better of a bumping match with Ialysos at around halfway, he came through to show briefly in the lead but could not get away from his pursuers and faded inside the last. His rider reported that the gelding is a pure sprinter who is better suited to a flat track. - racingPost
JJ THE JET PLANE - 4th / ART CONNOISSEUR - 1st @ 20-1 / KINGSGATE NATIVE
2 x 1pt Swingers
J J The Jet Plane made the running, travelling well but not at a breakneck pace. Once headed the South African star dropped out of contention, but he was keeping on again late and shaded fourth on the line. This was only his second defeat on turf at sprint distances and there seemed no obvious excuses. - racingPost
Swinger paid over £56, if only JJ had held on!!!

RESULTS
3.05 LUSH LASHES
Despite having to give 5lb all round, three-time Group 1 winner Lush Lashes was still the one to beat at the weights. Impressive winner of the Coronation Stakes at this meeting last year, her trainer had said that her reappearance in testing ground had been very much needed, and these conditions promised to suit her a lot better. She proved very disappointing, however, weakening right out from the two pole. Having run below her best on both her starts since her unfortunate experience in Hong Kong last term, it remains to be seen whether she retains her sparkling three-year-old ability. - racingPost
3.45 TARTAN BEARER - 2nd
Tartan Bearer won the Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown firsttime out but missed an intended run in the Tattersalls Gold Cup because of the testing ground. Racing on the outside of the bunch, he took a little bit of time to pick up when Twice Over went for home, but he was in pursuit of that horse in plenty of time, keeping on strongly but just lacking the pace of the winner who passed him inside the last. - racingPost
4.20 DOCKOFTHEBAY - nr
4.55 CAPERCAILLIE
Mark Johnston regarded Capercaillie as the best juvenile filly he has trained other than Attraction, who landed this race in 2003 before winning two Classics the following season. A winner of both her starts, at Musselburgh each time, Capercaillie never looked like winning this and edged left approaching the final furlong before running on nicely when straightened. She should be kept on the right side. - racingPost
Very disappointing run by all the selections!!

2.30 GLADATORIUS
3.05 SCENIC BLAST - 1st @ 11/4
4.20 RED JAZZ
4.55 SESENTA - 2nd @ 10/1
5.30 THE HERMITAGE
Using MASTERCRAFTSMAN as the banker, 5 x 1pt e/w dbls
A small profit of 3.1pts on the day. I thought SESANTA (beaten a neck) was going to deliver a bumper 24pts profit day
Best Bets of the Day!!
ASCOT
2.30 GLADATORIUS is the highest rated horse in the world, BUT the change of stables may have adversely affected him.
3.05 SCENIC BLAST - Australian sprinter who will take all the beating. The draw in 15 is not the best, BUT there is plenty of pace around him and is the one to be on @ 3/1 or better.
3.45 MASTERCRAFTSMAN is the one to be on @ Evs or better. The layers will take him on and Evs or better should be available in the lead up to the race.
4.20 RED JAZZ
4.55 SESENTA - e/w @ 9/1 or better. Well drawn, the only downside is she may want some rain.
5.30 THE HERMITAGE - e/w
I will be having 5 x 1pt e/w dbls with MASTERCRAFTSMAN and each of the other 5 horses.

Best Bets of the Day!!
This is what I posted earlier today:
A quiet day today, with some poor races.
Favorites have a good record at FOLKESTONE and usually provide a couple of winners.
3 winnners from 5 clear favorites (13/8, 5/2, 11/4), and 1 placed fav.
2 joint favs were placed.
Backing clear favs would have produced a profit of +4.88pts on the day!!
BE LUCKY!!

Well looks as though we have a superstar in SEA THE STARS that should be followed until the end of the season.
It will take a good horse to be ahead of him in the rankings at the end of the year. I'd be disappointed if he wasn't the top-rated horse in the world by the end of 2009 - Garry O'Gorman
I hope they run FAME AND GLORY in the Irish Derby now and the ground is on the soft side of good.
3.45 eps FAME AND GLORY - 2nd @ 9/4
SEA THE STARS - 1st @ 11/4
1pt Swinger paid £2.20
The EXACTA paid £11.20 and should have been the bet, as my angle into the race was that FAME AND GLORY would win unless SEA THE STARS was a superstar.
Apologies for the mistake!!

Best Bets of the Day!!
If SEA THE STARS wins this he will have to be a SUPERSTAR!!
Many have tried to win both the 2000gns and the Derby, very few have succeeded (2 in the last 39 years!!).
SEA THE STARS is the best horse on ratings BUT may not stay 1m 4f in a Gp1.
2000 gns is the best trial BUT the winner is usually TOO QUICK to win a Derby, according to tradition.
FAME AND GLORY is unbeaten, stamina not an issue, and has the ability to QUICKEN, perfect profile for a Derby winner.
BLACK BEAR ISLAND for the tricast!!
3.45 eps FAME AND GLORY - 3 pts Win @ 4/1

RESULTS:
7.40 rip BOBBY SOXER
Bobbie Soxer was a shade disappointing. The suspicion was the penalty for her Leicesterwin may have been enough to beat her but, having picked off early pace-setter Paddy Bear, she folded quite tamely when the winner came at her. - racingPost
3.40 nott GOLDEN GAMES - 2nd @ 6/1
GOLDEN GAMES was stepping up 2f and ran her best race so far. She should be able to win a similarly ordinary staying event on this evidence. - racingPost
8.40 rip MERDAAM - 3rd
Merdaam was disappointing. Well backed, he never got competitive and there were no obvious excuses, other than he found the ground too quick. He is bred to do better in time. - racingPost

John Dunlop has 4 runners today,
2.10 nott KYLE OF BUTE is a Maiden running in a Hcp and is best watched today on his 2nd start of the season.
7.40 rip BOBBY SOXER won his last race and carries a penalty.
3.40 nott GOLDEN GAMES
8.40 rip MERDAAM
3 x 1pt e/w doubles
Results:
Another one for the notebook for John Dunlop's MUDAARAAH who,
'travelled smoothly during the race and quickened up down the centre of the track to win with quite a bit in hand and give John Dunlop his second two-year-old winner from three runners this season. She looks a useful prospect and could improve significantly for this initial experience'. - racingPost

Best Bets of the Day!!
Well like I said John Dunlop has his string in fine form, BUT it was AKMAL @ 4/1 in the 8.10 at Thirsk that brought home the bacon!!
HOWARD finished 4th, beaten 0.5length, and 2 noses
HOWARD was suited by this drip in trip, although he was a little keen early, and he seemed to have his chance after briefly having to wait for a gap in the straight. - racingPost
PERSIAN MEMORIES - 3rd, beaten 2 lengths.
On the best of her form, PERSIAN MEMORIES is well handicapped and this was more like it after two uncompetitive efforts earlier this season. - racingPost
Looking at Johns results his horses seem to be hitting the target on their 3rd run of the season (4 winners from 11 runners), AKMAL won on his 3rd start and then followed up on his Hcp debut.
John has an unraced horse making his debut today which is fancied BUT will likely improve for the run.
BE LUCKY!!
